Astha-B

ASTHA-B is a combination oral syrup formulated to manage respiratory conditions by providing both bronchodilation and mucus clearance. It contains salbutamol, a beta-2 adrenergic agonist (bronchodilator), and ambroxol, a mucolytic agent. This combination helps relieve symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly in patients with excessive mucus production and airway constriction.

  • Recommended Usage
Indications
  • Asthma: For the relief of bronchospasm, wheezing, and shortness of breath.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): For alleviating symptoms like cough, difficulty breathing, and mucus buildup.
  • Bronchitis: To help reduce chest congestion and improve the clearance of mucus from the airways.
  • Other Respiratory Conditions: Where bronchodilation and mucolysis are beneficial.
Dosage and Administration

Route of Administration: Oral syrup.

Typical dose for adults: 10 ml (containing 2 mg salbutamol, 30 mg ambroxol) 2-3 times a day, or as prescribed by the healthcare provider.

Typical dose for children (age 2-12 years): 5-10 ml, depending on age and weight, 2-3 times daily.

Administration: Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the prescribed dose using the provided dosing cup or spoon and take it orally. The syrup can be taken with or without food.

Precautions

Cardiovascular Disease: Salbutamol can cause an increase in heart rate or palpitations. Use cautiously in patients with heart disease or hypertension.

Hypertension: Caution in patients with high blood pressure, as salbutamol may cause transient increases in blood pressure.

Diabetes: Salbutamol can affect blood sugar levels, so blood sugar should be monitored closely in diabetic patients.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use during pregnancy should be done under medical supervision, especially in the first trimester. Salbutamol is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, so consult a healthcare provider before breastfeeding.

Gastrointestinal Issues: Ambroxol may cause mild gastrointestinal side effects like nausea. If discomfort occurs, administer with food.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to salbutamol, ambroxol, or any of the other components of the syrup.

Severe Cardiovascular Disorders: Not recommended for patients with severe cardiovascular diseases, particularly those with uncontrolled arrhythmias or hypertension.

Severe Liver or kidney disease: Caution is advised in patients with liver or kidney impairment.

Key Benefits

Bronchodilation: Salbutamol works by relaxing the muscles in the airways, which helps open up the air passages, making it easier to breathe.

Mucolytic Action: Ambroxol helps to break down and thin mucus, making it easier to clear from the airways and improving respiratory function.

Expectorant Effect: Ambroxol enhances mucus clearance by thinning and loosening mucus, helping the body expel it more effectively.

Convenient Liquid Form: The syrup formulation is easy to administer, especially for children or patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules.

Symptom Relief: Provides effective relief from symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, chest congestion, and cough, improving comfort and breathing.
