Indication
Systemic fungal infections such as:
Candidiasis (infections caused by Candida species, including candidemia)
Blastomycosis (a fungal infection affecting lungs and skin)
Histoplasmosis (lung infections caused by the Histoplasma fungus)
Aspergillosis (a fungal infection caused by Aspergillus species)
Cryptococcosis (fungal infection, often affecting the brain)
Topical fungal infections that do not respond to topical treatments, as an alternative to topical forms of Ketoconazole.
Dosage and Administration
Typical Dosage: Usually, 200 mg once or twice daily, depending on the infection.
Instructions: Take the tablet with food to increase absorption and minimize stomach irritation.
Duration: Treatment duration varies based on the infection type and severity. Continue for the prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
Precautions
Liver Disease: Ketoconazole can affect liver function, so it should be used with caution in patients with liver disorders. Liver function tests may be needed during treatment.
Heart Issues: May cause QT prolongation (a heart rhythm issue), especially in those with existing heart conditions.
Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary due to potential risks to the fetus.
Drug Interactions: Ketoconazole can interact with many other drugs (e.g., warfarin, phenytoin), so inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
