Dosage and Administration

Route of Administration: Intravenous infusion.

Typical Dose for Adults:

- General Infections: 500mg of Levofloxacin (in combination with 900mg of Sodium Chloride) administered once daily via intravenous infusion.

- Severe Infections: The dose may be increased to 750mg to 1g once daily, depending on the severity and type of infection.

- Duration of Therapy: Generally ranges from 5 to 14 days, depending on the infection's type and severity.

- Administration: Infuse the medication over a period of 60-90 minutes. Do not administer as a rapid IV push or bolus to avoid adverse effects.

Note: The infusion should be administered under the supervision of a healthcare provider, and patients with renal impairment may require dosage adjustments.

Precautions

Hypersensitivity: Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the infusion.

Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture: Use with caution in patients over 60 years of age, patients on corticosteroids, and those with a history of tendon problems.

QT Interval Prolongation: Levofloxacin may prolong the QT interval; it should be used cautiously in patients with a history of arrhythmia or other heart conditions.

Renal Impairment: Adjust dosage in patients with renal dysfunction. Severe renal impairment may require further reductions in dose.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Levofloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is excreted in breast milk and should be used with caution during breastfeeding.

Seizure Risk: Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or central nervous system disorders.
