1. Risperidone 3mg
Indications
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar disorder (acute mania)
- Irritability in Autism Spectrum Disorder
Dosage and Administration
Adults: Start with 1-2 mg/day, increase gradually to 3-6 mg/day based on response.
Children (5-17 years): Start at 0.5 mg/day, increase gradually.
Can be taken with or without food.
Precautions
Risk of weight gain, diabetes, dyslipidemia.
Monitor for tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Use cautiously in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular issues.
May increase prolactin levels.
2. Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride 2mg
Indications
- Parkinson's disease (adjunct therapy)
- Extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., tremors, rigidity) caused by antipsychotic medications
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: Start with 1-2 mg/day, increase as needed to 6-10 mg/day.
Take orally, can be taken with food to reduce stomach upset.
Precautions:
Caution in elderly and those with glaucoma, BPH, or urinary retention.
May cause dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation.
Use cautiously in those with cognitive disorders (e.g., dementia).
