TIS-10 is an oral medication containing isotretinoin, a powerful retinoid primarily used in the treatment of severe acne vulgaris (nodular or cystic acne) that has not responded to other treatments. Isotretinoin works by reducing the size and secretion of sebaceous (oil) glands, preventing clogged pores, and decreasing inflammation, making it highly effective in treating severe acne.
Route of Administration: Oral tablet.
Typical dose for adults: 10-20 mg daily, depending on the severity of the condition and individual response.
Initial dose for severe cases: 0.5 mg/kg/day, increasing to a maximum of 1 mg/kg/day as necessary, divided into 1 or 2 doses.
Duration of treatment: Treatment typically lasts 16-20 weeks, with improvement seen after several weeks of use. A second course may be considered if acne does not clear completely.
Administration: Take the tablet with food to enhance absorption.
Teratogenic effects: Isotretinoin is highly teratogenic (can cause birth defects). Strict birth control measures are essential for females of reproductive age during treatment and for at least one month after discontinuing the medication.
Monitor for side effects: Regular monitoring of liver function, lipid levels, and pregnancy tests (in women) is required during treatment.
Avoid use in pregnancy: Isotretinoin should never be used during pregnancy or by women who may become pregnant during treatment.
Caution in patients with liver disease, hyperlipidemia, or depression: Isotretinoin can worsen liver function and lipid levels, and has been associated with mood changes, including depression and suicidal thoughts.
Avoid sun exposure: Isotretinoin can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so sun exposure should be minimized, and sunscreen should be used regularly.
Discontinue use if severe side effects occur: If signs of severe side effects like severe headache, vision problems, or psychiatric changes (e.g., depression) occur, contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Pregnancy (due to teratogenic risks).
Hypersensitivity to isotretinoin or any excipients in the tablet.
Patients with a history of severe liver disease or elevated lipid levels.
Patients with a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or other serious psychiatric disorders.
Effective for Severe Acne: Isotretinoin is one of the most effective treatments for severe, cystic acne that does not respond to other therapies.
Long-Term Results: In many cases, isotretinoin leads to long-term remission of acne after a single course of treatment.
Reduces Oil Production: Reduces the size and
activity of sebaceous glands, significantly decreasing oil production that contributes to acne.Reduces Acne Scarring: By clearing up active acne, isotretinoin helps prevent further scarring, allowing skin to heal more effectively.
Improves Skin Texture: With its strong anti-inflammatory effects, isotretinoin can also improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin.
