Indications
- Respiratory infections : sinusitis, bronchitis.
- Ear infections : otitis media
- Urinary tract infections : cystitis
- Skin infections : cellulitis
- Dental infections and bite wounds
Dosage and Administration
200 mg of Amoxicillin and 28.5 mg of Clavulanate every 12 hours.
For more severe infections, the dosage may be increased to 500 mg of Amoxicillin and 125 mg of Clavulanate every 12 hours.
Pediatric: Adjusted based on weight and the infection, 25-45 mg/kg/day, divided into two doses every 12 hours.
Precautions
Allergic reactions to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease.
May cause gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., diarrhea, nausea, vomiting).
Prolonged use can lead to superinfections (e.g., Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea).
Pregnancy: Generally safe (Category B), but consult a doctor before use.
