Dosage:
For Adults:
- Genital Herpes:
- Initial outbreak: 1,000 mg twice daily for 7-10 days.
- Recurrent outbreaks: 500 mg twice daily for 3-5 days.
- Suppression: 500 mg once daily to reduce recurrence.
- Shingles: 1,000 mg three times daily for 7 days.
- Cold Sores (Herpes Labialis): 2,000 mg twice daily for 1 day (usually within 1 hour of the first symptoms).
- Chickenpox: 20 mg per kg of body weight every 8 hours for 5 days.
For Children (2 years and older): Dosing for children varies based on the condition being treated and their body weight, so it's important to consult a pediatrician.
Renal Impairment: Dosage may be adjusted for individuals with kidney problems, as valaciclovir is cleared through the kidneys.
